About the event
This expressive art & movement class is designed for youth and teens 11+ and provides a sneak peek into our introductory expressive movement session this fall. Â This class is designed to help you build your identity and establish relationships with others through the use of movement and and a variety of arts based activities. Â The evening will conclude with your choice of ice cream from the window with toppings.
Participants can expect:
-mindfulness built into the movements
-arts based activities in addition to dance
-team building activities
-increased self confidence
The instructor, Alyssa Cooperider, has been studying all types of dance for over 20 years and teaching for the last 5. She earned her Bachelors in Child Development from the University of Rhode Island and has a strong background in working with children of all ages including those with special needs. She is currently pursuing her Masters in Licensed Mental Health Counseling and Dance Therapy from Lesley University. She believes that movement is medicine and by incorporating therapeutic approaches with children and dance, it can be a powerful healing modality. In addition to her work with teaching, she also works as a child life specialist in the Newton-Wellesley ER.
